Power-ups are the heartbeat of Pro Jank Footy. Score a goal in the full chaos ruleset and your opponent gets to choose from three random cards that buff their side, nerf yours, or rewrite the laws of the oval. That catch-up loop is why blowouts feel rare and rematches feel mandatory.

Why the system exists

Creative director David Ashby has described the fantasy plainly: sports games punish losers with boredom. Pro Jank Footy flips that script. Conceding is painful on the scoreboard but exciting on the card table. You might double your roster, delete umpires, become seagulls, sprinkle goal posts around the ground, or turn every player into a bouncing football. Some effects are soft advantages; others are pure comedy engines that make Watch Mode worth leaving on in the background.

How to study power-ups efficiently

1. Learn categories first (self-buff, opponent-debuff, rule rewrite, instant chaos).
2. Practice reading the three-card offer under time pressure—hesitation loses value.
3. In Season Mode, think several matches ahead; a hilarious card can be a dead draw against the wrong boss theme.
4. Cross-check Game Modes so you know when cards are disabled entirely.

Teaching cards without spoiling Season

Hosts can run a “card museum” exhibition: play Pro Jank, and after each goal the table must name the category before picking. That ritual builds the same literacy Deck Building expects, without burning a Season seed. Mix in a Watch Mode break to study AI decision vibes when humans need water.

When tiers disagree with your hands

If a so-called C-tier card keeps winning your living room, trust your living room. Publish that anecdote to friends, then keep climbing Season with whatever actually converts goals. Tiers are conversation starters, not commandments.
