Season Mode Guide

Season Mode is where Pro Jank Footy stops being only a party starter and becomes a personal roguelite story. You take a club, inherit an early toolkit of powers, and fight through a ladder of increasingly absurd opponents until you are crowned some flavour of Pro Jank World Champion.

What Season Mode is (and is not)

It is a structured campaign with deck-building. It is not a full AFL management sim with wages and drafts. Think of it as a comedy gauntlet: each win expands your toolbox, each loss teaches which cards were dead weight against a specific gimmick.

Public descriptions highlight roughly ten teams in the climb, including themes like a side of giants, a side made of cars, and a lone unstoppable menace. Exact encounter order can vary with balance patches—treat themes as warnings, not spoilers you must memorise.

Before you start a run

  1. Complete the onboarding path in Getting Started.
  2. Be fluent in tap/hold inputs from Controls.
  3. Understand card categories via Power-Ups Overview.
  4. Skim Deck Building so you draft with intent.
  5. Pick a club you enjoy watching on Clubs and Teams.

Mid-run decision framework

Every goal you concede in Pro Jank rules feeds a three-card shop to the trailing side. In Season, that shop is both recovery and identity. Ask:

  • Does this card help me score next?
  • Does this card survive the next gimmick (size, vehicles, isolation bosses)?
  • Is this card funny but empty against the current threat?

Hilarious rule rewrites are wonderful in exhibition matches. In Season, a quiet movement buff can be the adult choice that keeps the run alive.

Boss-theme prep (spoiler-light)

  • Giant-style foes: Prioritise tools that restore mobility, create numbers, or punish slow turns.
  • Vehicle-style foes: Expect weird hitboxes and comedy collisions—practice tackle timing beforehand.
  • Single unstoppable archetypes: Value disruption, body multiplication, and anything that creates extra scorers.

Pair stadium awareness from Stadiums with these themes; hazards stack onto already dishonest rules.

When to abandon a greedy deck

If your toolkit is three pure joke cards and zero ways to move the ball under pressure, you are cosplaying, not campaigning. Pivot toward reliable disposal buffs, then sprinkle chaos back in once the scoreboard is safe. The provisional Power-Up Tier List can help—but remember it is pre-launch guidance.

Solo pacing tips

Season is perfect for headphones-on evenings. Alternate serious matches with a Watch Mode break if commentary fatigue hits. Broden Kelly’s energy is a feature; it can also be a lot after midnight.

After you win (or wipe)

Write down which cards felt mandatory. That personal list becomes your next run’s north star and will matter more than any generic tier once the live meta arrives. Then celebrate by hosting a couch night using Multiplayer—teach friends the cards that carried you.

Season Mode rewards curiosity more than perfection. Die to a car. Laugh. Rebuild smarter.

Seed mindset

Treat each Season attempt like a roguelite seed. The first three card picks define your thesis. If the thesis collapses against a themed rival, note whether the failure was mechanical (missed tackles) or strategic (wrong card family). Mechanical failures send you back to Controls; strategic failures send you to Deck Building.

Emotional pacing

Absurd bosses can tilt people who take sports games seriously. Schedule a Kick-to-Kick break after any humiliating loss so the next attempt starts clean. Comedy games still produce real cortisol; manage it like an athlete, not a meme lord.
